Dual Assassination of Iranian Supreme Court justices in Tehran

Two senior justices of the Iranian Supreme Court lost their lives in a tragic shooting incident at the tribunal building in central Tehran. The judiciary confirmed that the attack, deemed an "assassination," occurred early Saturday when an armed individual opened fire before taking his own life.

The victims, identified as Hojjat al-Islam Razini and Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Moqisseh, were prominent figures within the judiciary. Both judges played significant roles in handling cases related to national security, espionage, and terrorism. They were described as “courageous and experienced” by judiciary representatives.

A judiciary spokesperson revealed that the attacker entered the courtroom armed with a handgun and targeted the two justices. Investigations are ongoing, but preliminary findings suggest that the assailant had no prior association with the Supreme Court or any previous legal history within its jurisdiction.

The incident also resulted in injuries to a bodyguard accompanying the justices. Authorities are working to determine whether additional individuals were involved in planning or executing the attack.

This tragic event is not the first targeting Razini; he survived an attempted assassination in 1998 while serving as the head of Tehran’s judiciary. Iranian officials have pledged a thorough investigation to uncover the motive and any potential accomplices behind the attack.
