Advancing Regionalization: A Strategic Approach for Sustainable Development
The second edition of the National Advanced Regionalization Conference took place on Friday in Tangier, gathering over 1,500 participants, including government officials, regional leaders, Moroccan and international experts, and economic stakeholders. Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the event underscored the importance of regionalization as a catalyst for development and social cohesion.
A Practical Vision for Regional Development
Omar Moro, President of the Council of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, emphasized the need for a practical implementation of the plans and programs discussed within regional councils. He highlighted the critical role of local projects in improving citizens' lives, particularly in transportation, education, health, and employment sectors.
Moro stressed that the recommendations emerging from the conference should provide actionable and tailored solutions to strengthen the effectiveness of regional councils. These councils must evolve into key partners of governmental departments, ensuring the successful execution of public policies at the territorial level while respecting regional specificities.
Assessing Progress and Addressing Challenges
Now in its second phase, the advanced regionalization initiative undergoes continuous evaluation to consolidate achievements and address ongoing challenges. The aim is to empower regions to fully exercise their constitutional roles, fostering grassroots democracy and civic participation in line with Royal directives.
The conference agenda featured six thematic workshops addressing current priorities, such as enhancing territorial attractiveness, promoting productive investments, and integrating the recommendations of the New Development Model. These discussions sought to equip regions with the tools necessary for achieving balanced and sustainable growth.
Royal Vision and Strategic Importance
The opening session included a Royal Message delivered by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit. The message reaffirmed the strategic importance of advanced regionalization as an institutional reform to bolster territorial development.
The conference, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior and the Association of Moroccan Regions, brought together diverse stakeholders to tackle existing challenges and accelerate the implementation of this transformative reform. With over 45,000 virtual participants and 160 international guests, the event demonstrated Morocco's commitment to leveraging regionalization for modernization and national development.
Building Autonomous and Efficient Regions
Through this collective mobilization, Morocco reiterates its ambition to create autonomous and efficient regions capable of addressing citizens' aspirations and meeting future economic and social challenges. The advanced regionalization process stands as a cornerstone of the country's efforts to establish sustainable, inclusive growth and a more cohesive society.
By fostering collaboration, innovation, and localized solutions, Morocco is laying the foundation for a regional governance model that aligns with its vision of equitable development and progress.
