Moroccan Cinema Shines Bright at the 20th Marrakech Film Festival
The 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), set to unfold from November 24th to December 2nd, is poised to celebrate and showcase the vibrant landscape of Moroccan cinema.
Ali Hajji, FIFM's general coordinator, expressed enthusiasm about the extensive representation of national cinema in this year's program, featuring a compelling lineup of 15 films. In an interview with L'Economiste, Hajji highlighted that this robust showcase underscores a pivotal moment for Moroccan filmmakers within the festival.
Two prominent Moroccan directors, Asmae El Moudir and Kamal Lazraq, are set to premiere their latest works in competition—a historic occurrence as it marks only the third time in FIFM's two-decade history that two native directors are vying for recognition in the same edition.
Beyond the celebration of local talent, Hajji underscored FIFM's well-established reputation for attracting some of cinema's most notable figures since its inception in 2001. The festival stands out for its consistent ability to draw renowned personalities to serve on juries, participate in master classes, and receive prestigious career tributes—an accolade few other festivals can match.
With a compelling mix of world-renowned cinema luminaries and emerging Moroccan directors gracing the festival's schedule, the 20th FIFM is poised to create waves on the global film festival circuit. As it takes center stage, the festival promises an unparalleled convergence of established and rising stars, further solidifying its position as a significant player in the cinematic landscape.
