Arab Security Chiefs Tour Tangier Port Following Landmark Meeting
TANGIER - The newly inaugurated Tangier Mediterranean Port took center stage on Wednesday as top law enforcement officials from across the Arab world converged for an exclusive tour of the state-of-the-art facilities on Morocco's strategic Strait of Gibraltar.
Fresh from their participation in the 47th annual gathering of Arab police and security directors in nearby Tangier, the high-profile delegation was led by Interpol chief Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, accompanied by security directors general from 20 Arab nations.
The influential guests were hosted for the special visit by Abdellatif Hammouchi, Morocco's Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST) spy chief, who chaired the first day of the landmark security summit on Tuesday.
Hammouchi and port officials briefed the Interpol head and other security leaders on the vital economic and trade importance of Tangier Med for Morocco and the formidable security challenges facing the bustling complex.
The tour highlighted Morocco's trailblazing approach to securing its strategic commercial and maritime installations—a model that other Arab countries are eager to learn from.
This visit marked the culmination of the two-day summit, where delegates from across Europe and the Middle East deliberated on issues such as terrorism, drugs, cybercrime, and other pressing security threats.
In his closing address, Mohammed Bin Ali Kuman, Secretary-General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, conveyed a message of support for Morocco's security leadership from King Mohammed VI.
He expressed gratitude, stating, "I extend my thanks to his majesty and the kingdom of Morocco for their pioneering role in enhancing security and promoting joint Arab action."
The meeting concluded with a collective call to emulate Morocco's robust strategy against cybercrime. The DGST also received recognition through awards for the best community policing awareness film.
