African Lion 2025 reinforces military cooperation and regional security

Under the high directives of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, Morocco is preparing to host the 21st edition of the "African Lion" military exercise from May 12 to 23, 2025, in coordination with the United States. The drills will take place across multiple Moroccan cities including Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kenitra, Benguerir, and Tifnit, affirming Morocco’s dedication to regional security and international military cooperation.

Thorough Planning and Preparation

Preparations for this large-scale exercise began well in advance, culminating in a final planning conference held in Agadir from February 24 to 28, 2025. Hosted by the Southern Zone Headquarters, the event brought together representatives from the participating nations. Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces ensured full readiness by deploying necessary logistical and human resources, reflecting the country's strong organizational capabilities for one of Africa’s largest joint military events.

Promoting Strategic Collaboration

African Lion 2025 will bring together armed forces from over 30 countries across Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, as well as Morocco and the U.S. This joint exercise aims to improve interoperability on multiple fronts—operational, tactical, and procedural—enabling participating forces to better address shared security threats. The program includes field and tactical exercises by land, sea, and air, both day and night, alongside special operations training and airborne deployments. A joint planning workshop for task force officers is also included to refine coordination in multinational missions.

Humanitarian and Social Engagement

Beyond its military scope, the exercise will feature humanitarian and social initiatives to support local communities. These efforts illustrate the broader goals of African Lion 2025, which include fostering solidarity, strengthening ties between nations, and encouraging sustainable development.

A Pillar of Regional Stability

This military exercise underscores Morocco’s strategic role as a key contributor to peace and security in Africa and the Maghreb. By hosting this operation, Morocco strengthens its defense ties with the United States and other partner nations while enhancing multilateral operational readiness and trust among allies.

A Forward-Looking Approach

African Lion 2025 reflects King Mohammed VI’s vision of building durable partnerships centered on development and security. With participation from elite military forces worldwide, the exercise emphasizes Morocco's active commitment to international collaboration and its readiness to confront modern global security challenges.

In essence, the 21st edition of African Lion positions Morocco as a central figure in promoting peace and cooperation, reaffirming its ongoing role in shaping a secure and stable future for the region and the broader international community.
