Elon Musk advocates for a US-Europe free trade zone

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has voiced support for a free trade zone between the United States and Europe, calling for the elimination of tariffs. During a video appearance at a conference organized by Italy's far-right League party in Florence, Musk emphasized his belief in a zero-tariff arrangement between the two regions. His statement followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of tariffs on imports, including a 20% tariff on goods from the European Union, particularly targeting Italy, which maintains a significant trade surplus with the US.

Musk advocated for the unrestricted movement of people as well, proposing that citizens wishing to work either in Europe or North America should be free to do so. He expressed this view to League leader Matteo Salvini and mentioned that he had discussed this perspective with Trump.

Musk has previously aligned with right-wing European parties, such as Salvini’s League and Italy’s Brothers of Italy, as well as the Alternative for Germany (AfD). On the same day, Italy’s Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, also from the League, called for de-escalation of tensions over tariffs, urging against retaliatory actions.

The European Union, in response, pledged to handle the situation calmly and in a coordinated manner. US tariffs on European goods have raised concerns about potential retaliatory tariffs, increasing the risk of a global trade conflict.
