Maroc Telecom signs landmark agreement with union to boost employee benefits
Improved wages and benefits for employees and retirees
The National Telecommunications Union (SNT), affiliated with the Democratic Federation of Labor (FDT), has signed a new social agreement with Maroc Telecom. This deal enhances salaries, education aid, health coverage, and vacation access for both employees and retirees.
This development follows the arrival of Mohammed Benchaaboun, who assumed leadership of collective management in March. His appointment marked the end of Abdeslam Ahizoune’s 27-year tenure, often criticized for labor disputes and stagnant internal mobility. Since then, employee relations have significantly improved.
Key outcomes of the agreement
The union’s Secretary General, Hamid Kejji, and the company’s Human Resources Director finalized the deal after a series of meetings initiated in April. The agreement includes:
- A general 5% salary increase starting June, with a minimum of MAD 500 ($50) monthly
- A 50% increase in the education grant for employees’ children
- Doubling of university scholarships for high-achieving children to 20 annually
- A 50% discount on summer camp and vacation center prices, with a MAD 150 minimum discount
- Expansion of Maroc Telecom’s contribution to private vacation center access to 130%, available year-round
- Preferential vacation rates for off-season stays in private facilities
- Health transport services extended to retirees
- New communication tools for retirees via mobile app and email
Employees in sales, service expansion, and network connection roles will also benefit from increased incentive budgets.
A new era of labor relations
This agreement signals a decisive shift in management philosophy. Long-standing staff complaints about delayed promotions and unaddressed advancement files appear to have been acknowledged. The SNT praised the leadership of Benchaaboun, highlighting what it called “social awareness and unprecedented initiative” in addressing labor issues.
The union stated it would continue advocating for workers while participating in initiatives to reinforce Maroc Telecom’s role as a national and regional leader. The focus remains on service quality, employee wellbeing, and long-term stability.
A model for national institutions
The deal is seen as a breakthrough in fostering productive relationships between labor unions and major national entities. It promotes transparency, shared responsibility, and long-term collaboration. For Morocco’s corporate landscape, this agreement offers a template for sustainable internal reform grounded in dialogue.
