Morocco launches youth labs initiative to empower young researchers

The Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, in collaboration with UNESCO, has inaugurated the “Youth Labs” program aimed at fostering young researchers. This pioneering initiative marks Morocco as the first country globally to adopt this UNESCO program, titled “Youth as Researchers,” supported by national institutions.

The initiative seeks to transform youth centers throughout Morocco into hubs for research, innovation, and community engagement. According to the ministry, the program is designed “by youth and for youth,” encouraging participants to address challenges within their communities and devise creative solutions through participatory research.

In the program's initial phase, 20 PhD students will be selected and trained to mentor youth in various regions of Morocco. These mentors will guide participants in research methodologies, help identify community issues, and assist in proposing viable solutions.

Moreover, the “Youth Labs” initiative aims to build connections between young individuals and local stakeholders, promoting collaboration and civic participation. Participants will gain practical research experience, applying techniques to tackle real-world challenges, fostering a spirit of innovation.

The PhD students will receive specialized training from UNESCO, equipping them to effectively mentor youth and support their research endeavors while raising awareness of significant social issues. This experience will not only enhance their academic and teaching skills but will also provide them with official recognition from both UNESCO and the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication. Their research contributions will be published, and they will receive official certificates upon completion of the program.

The ministry has encouraged interested PhD students to submit their applications by April 8.
