Morocco's Support in Valencia’s Recovery: A Lasting Legacy

In a poignant speech, Spain’s Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, expressed his deep gratitude to the Moroccan communication and support teams, as well as the police unit, during a farewell event in the autonomous city. He acknowledged their significant contributions to Valencia's recovery after the catastrophic flooding that struck the city at the end of October.

Grande-Marlaska praised the exceptional commitment of the Moroccan emergency teams deployed by the orders of King Mohammed VI, highlighting their efforts in relief and rehabilitation in the affected region. He emphasized that Morocco's support would forever remain etched in Spain's memory, particularly due to the immense suffering caused by the disaster.

The Minister pointed out that since mid-November, 103 Moroccan team members had been instrumental in cleaning over 350 kilometers of sewage systems, clearing 200 garages, and removing tons of mud and debris. Their work directly accelerated the restoration of essential activities in the devastated areas.

Grande-Marlaska also thanked the Spanish government’s communication teams for their pivotal role in ensuring coordination between the various efforts. He expressed heartfelt thanks, stating, “Your efforts and human commitment have left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of the Spanish people.”

He described these actions as a model of international cooperation between friendly and fraternal nations.

The event also featured an official ceremony honoring the Moroccan unit, with certificates of appreciation awarded to its members, recognizing their outstanding contributions. Spain had sent two large convoys with 37 specialized trucks and 103 workers to assist in rescue operations in the flood-stricken area.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, several Spanish officials and local civil protection members expressed profound appreciation for Morocco’s generous and effective humanitarian support.
