Princess Catherine misses Royal Ascot as she continues cancer recovery
Catherine, Princess of Wales, has withdrawn from attending the Royal Ascot, a prestigious annual horse racing event held in Berkshire, southern England, that holds special significance for the British royal family.
Her absence comes as she continues to prioritize her health after undergoing treatment for cancer. At 43, Catherine has been easing back into her public duties following a period of preventative chemotherapy, which she revealed earlier this year. Though she is now in remission, she remains focused on maintaining balance during her recovery.
Despite her disappointment at missing Royal Ascot an event long celebrated by the royal family Catherine’s health remains her primary concern. The race meeting, which spans five days, was known to be a favorite of the late Queen Elizabeth II and features a daily Royal Procession with the monarch and family members arriving in horse-drawn carriages.
Attendees watch the races from the exclusive Royal Enclosure, which enforces a formal dress code: top hats and morning coats for men, and hats with knee-length or longer dresses or skirts for women.
King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, has resumed his royal duties while still undergoing treatment. Catherine most recently appeared publicly on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the King’s birthday celebrations and attended a service at St George’s Chapel on the royal estate in Windsor.
