Royal Moroccan Navy Rescues 81 Irregular Migrants off Dakhla Coast
In a courageous rescue operation, a combat unit of the Royal Moroccan Navy, on maritime patrol duty, came to the aid of 81 individuals attempting irregular migration from sub-Saharan Africa to the Canary Islands. The distressed vessel, a dugout canoe carrying the would-be migrants, was spotted 280 kilometers southwest of the city of Dakhla and 165 kilometers offshore, amidst perilous weather conditions.
According to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the Navy unit swiftly responded to the emergency, providing vital first aid to the individuals on board before safely escorting them to the port of Dakhla. Upon arrival, the rescued migrants were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures.
