Strengthening Ties: Swiss Parliamentary Delegation Engages with Moroccan Leadership
On October 23, 2024, Rachid Talbi Alami, the President of the Moroccan House of Representatives, welcomed Laurent Wehrli, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Swiss National Council, at the council's headquarters in Rabat. This visit marks a significant parliamentary engagement aimed at bolstering cooperation between Morocco and Switzerland.
During their discussions, which also included Khadija Oulbacha, the head of the Morocco-Switzerland Friendship Group, and Valentin Zellweger, the Swiss Ambassador to Morocco, both parties explored avenues for enhancing parliamentary collaboration. They addressed various regional and international issues of mutual concern, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue between their legislative bodies.
Talbi Alami highlighted the necessity for consistent communication and exchange of perspectives on topics pertinent to both nations. He underscored the value of sharing experiences and best practices to foster a deeper understanding and cooperation between their respective institutions.
This meeting served as an opportunity for Talbi Alami to showcase Morocco's recent reforms under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He outlined advancements in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, social solidarity, migration policies, climate change initiatives, and water management.
In response, Wehrli acknowledged the robust bilateral cooperation between Switzerland and Morocco. He expressed a strong commitment from the Swiss Parliament to further strengthen ties and friendship with Morocco.
It is noteworthy that this engagement follows a previous visit in May by Eric Nussbaumer, President of the Swiss National Council, who led a significant parliamentary delegation to Morocco. This series of interactions reflects an ongoing commitment to enhance diplomatic relations and collaborative efforts between the two countries.
