Teachers' Strike Persists Despite New Agreement Signing
In a bold defiance of the recently inked agreement between the government and the unions, the national coordination committee of the education sector has firmly rejected the deal. The coordination committee asserts that the agreement falls short of addressing the teachers' demands, signaling the continuation of the ongoing protest movement.
The coordination committee has declared that the strike will persist on December 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th, accompanied by a series of sit-ins within educational institutions. "The coordination committee has tirelessly advocated for the fulfillment of teachers' demands, including the permanent withdrawal of the unified status, salary increases, and the cancellation of salary deductions for striking teachers. Unfortunately, the signed agreement is formal and fails to adequately address our grievances," the press release stated.
It is crucial to note that the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, presided over the signing ceremony of the minutes of the agreement on the status of civil servants in the national education sector via video conference in Rabat on Tuesday.
This signing ceremony follows an agreement reached between the tripartite ministerial commission and the representatives of the most influential teaching unions regarding amendments related to educational and financial aspects of education sector employees. The objective is to implement the roadmap for public school reform within the government's dynamic, placing the student at the core of the reform process.
