Vicente Del Bosque Appointed Ambassador of Spanish Football
In a move aimed at restoring the integrity of Spanish football, the government has announced the appointment of Vicente Del Bosque to lead a commission tasked with overseeing the operations of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The former coach of the Spanish national team, who won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euro, will now serve as the face and ambassador of Spanish football.
During a press conference following the Council of Ministers, Pilar Alegría, the government's spokesperson and Minister of Sports, outlined Del Bosque's responsibilities. "He will represent Spanish football at major events like the Champions League final, the European Championship, and the Olympics," she stated, emphasizing that the renowned coach "embodies the best of our football as a world and European champion, a man loved and respected by everyone, from players to citizens."
The primary mission of the Commission for Supervision, Normalization, and Representation is to ensure transparency in the upcoming electoral process at the RFEF after the Paris 2024 Olympics. The commission will also prepare for the major challenges ahead for the Spanish national team, from the 2024 European Championship in Germany to the 2030 World Cup, which Spain hopes to host.
At 72 years old, Vicente Del Bosque has garnered immense goodwill in Spain after leading the national team to the pinnacle of world football during his tenure from 2008 to 2016. Before that, he achieved great success as the coach of Real Madrid, winning two Champions League titles in 2000 and 2002.
