Morocco is set to launch its first-ever Cinema Festival, a four-day extravaganza that promises to transform the country into a haven for film enthusiasts. From September 7th to 10th, 2024, cinemas across the nation will open their doors to audiences, offering an unprecedented opportunity to experience the magic of the silver screen at a unified, affordable price.
Initiated by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) and the Moroccan Chamber of Cinema Halls, and orchestrated by Nelio Agency, this groundbreaking event aims to make cinema accessible to all. With a single ticket price of 30 dirhams per screening, the festival breaks down financial barriers, inviting Moroccans from all walks of life to partake in the cinematic arts.
The festival will span 20 theaters and multiplexes across seven cities, showcasing over 50 carefully curated films. This diverse selection promises to take spectators on a rich cinematic journey, exploring various genres and storytelling styles. A highlight of the event will be the exclusive premiere of "Triple A," a highly anticipated film by Moroccan director Jihane El Bahhar, offering audiences a sneak peek before its official release.
Beyond screenings, the Cinema Festival will host a series of special encounters, allowing the public to delve into the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with directors, actors, and industry experts, fostering a deeper appreciation for the craft of cinema.
The event caters to a broad demographic, from students and young film enthusiasts to families and industry professionals. This inclusive approach underscores Morocco's commitment to promoting and valuing cinema while making it more accessible to the general public.
Supported by theater operators and partner cinemas, the initiative aims to unite all sector stakeholders, from institutions to distributors, in a collective effort to promote and disseminate film culture. The organizers envision the Cinema Festival as a space for discovery, sharing, and exchange, offering Moroccan audiences an unprecedented and memorable cinematic experience.
This inaugural edition seeks to strengthen cinema's place in Moroccan culture by creating moments of shared experience and dialogue across generations of viewers. By celebrating the love of cinema collectively, the festival aims to contribute actively to the cultural flourishing of the Kingdom.
As Morocco prepares to roll out the red carpet for this nationwide celebration of film, the Cinema Festival stands as a testament to the country's dedication to cultural enrichment and the universal language of cinema. It marks a significant step in making the seventh art more accessible and fostering a deeper appreciation for film among Moroccans of all ages and backgrounds.
