Morocco and Burkina Faso Forge Strategic Military Partnership
In a significant step towards enhancing regional cooperation, Morocco and Burkina Faso have signed a comprehensive military agreement aimed at bolstering multi-sectoral collaboration. The accord encompasses military training, joint exercises, exchange of expertise, and partnerships in military health services.
Abdeltif Loudyi, Morocco's Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration, welcomed General Kassoum Coulibaly, Burkina Faso's Minister of Defense, in Rabat to formalize this agreement. The signing ceremony underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic ties and fortify regional stability.
Loudyi emphasized the critical nature of this partnership, aligning it with King Mohammed VI's vision of transforming the Atlantic coast of Africa into a hub of economic integration, stability, and prosperity. This vision reflects Morocco’s broader strategy to foster cooperation and growth across the continent.
General Coulibaly lauded the agreement, highlighting its importance in advancing South-South cooperation and regional initiatives championed by King Mohammed VI. He noted that such initiatives have positioned Morocco as a pivotal force in promoting stability, development, and peace throughout Africa.
The diplomatic relationship between Morocco and Burkina Faso is poised for further enhancement through this new military cooperation. Burkina Faso has consistently supported Morocco’s stance on territorial integrity, particularly concerning the Sahara. This diplomatic solidarity is further evidenced by Burkina Faso's consulate general in Morocco’s southern provinces of Dakhla and Laayoune, inaugurated on October 23, 2020.
This strategic military agreement marks a new chapter in Morocco-Burkina Faso relations, promising to contribute significantly to the stability and prosperity of the region.
