Tanger Med Port Thwarts Major Cocaine Trafficking Attempt
In a significant drug bust, Moroccan authorities at the Tanger Med port have uncovered a bold attempt to smuggle a substantial quantity of cocaine through the maritime gateway. The Tangier Judicial Police launched a comprehensive investigation on Sunday after a shipment from Brazil, destined for Greece, raised suspicions during routine checks.
The port's security and customs teams were alerted by a technical crew, prompting a thorough search of the shipping container with the aid of a specialized canine unit. Their meticulous efforts led to the seizure of 25 packages containing approximately 27.4 kilograms of cocaine, strategically linked to a satellite positioning system.
Preliminary analyses confirmed the seized substance was indeed cocaine, and samples have been dispatched to the National Police Forensic Laboratory for further concentration level testing.
Concurrently, the National Interpol Central Bureau in Rabat has been tasked with activating international cooperation procedures to ascertain the origin of the confiscated cargo and identify the individuals involved in this audacious trafficking attempt.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain resolute in their commitment to disrupting the nefarious activities of transnational drug cartels exploiting Morocco's strategic maritime position. This recent seizure underscores the nation's unwavering dedication to combating the illicit narcotics trade and safeguarding its borders from the scourge of drug trafficking.
