Morocco Maintains Top-Tier Position in African Quality of Life Index
Morocco has secured its position as the third-highest ranked African nation for quality of life in early 2025, according to a recent Business Insider assessment. The North African country achieved a score of 110.8, following South Africa (152.4) and Tunisia (117.3) in the continental rankings.
Despite a slight decline from its mid-2024 score of 111.9 and previous second-place position, Morocco continues to demonstrate substantial progress in overall living conditions. The comprehensive assessment evaluates multiple factors, including housing affordability, purchasing power, pollution levels, safety measures, healthcare quality, living costs, transportation efficiency, and climate conditions.
Kenya and Egypt rounded out the top five African nations, scoring 101.7 and 85.3 respectively. Notable shifts in the rankings included Nigeria's significant decline, with its score dropping dramatically from 49.5 in 2023 to 21.5, primarily attributed to deteriorating living conditions.
The Business Insider report emphasizes that global quality of life measurements have shown considerable variation in recent years, influenced by several key factors:
- Economic fluctuations
- Climate change impacts
- Political stability concerns
- Public health challenges
Morocco's consistent high ranking aligns with previous assessments. In 2023, US News ranked Morocco as the continent's top performer and 52nd globally, with a score of 12.7 out of 100, particularly excelling in affordability and safety metrics.
The latest ranking reaffirms Morocco's ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving living standards for its citizens, even amid global challenges affecting quality of life measurements worldwide. Countries achieving top positions in the index have demonstrated resilience in maintaining stable living conditions despite various international pressures.
