OCP Group Eyes 75% Stake in Spain’s Global Feed SLU: Strengthening Its Position in Animal Nutrition
OCP Group, a leading Moroccan phosphate producer, is making strategic moves to expand its influence in the global animal feed sector. The company has submitted a proposal to Morocco's Competition Council to acquire a 75% stake in Spain’s Global Feed SLU, enhancing its control over the Spanish animal nutrition company. This acquisition will be conducted through its Dutch subsidiary, OCP International Coöperatieve UA.
OCP initially acquired a 50% share of Global Feed in May 2023 from Fertinagro Biotech, marking its first foray into the animal nutrition market. The latest move seeks to increase its holdings by 25%, bringing its total stake in the company to 75%. According to the Competition Council, OCP’s acquisition aims to solidify its position in the animal feed industry and extend its geographic footprint.
The council has invited interested third parties to submit their views on the proposed transaction by December 19. It is important to note that the Competition Council’s request for feedback does not imply an approval of the acquisition. The approval process depends on an evaluation of the market impact of the deal.
Global Feed, located in Huelva, Spain, is known for producing animal nutrition products, including essential components such as dicalcium phosphate (DCP), monocalcium phosphate (MCP), and iron sulfate, which are key to improving the nutritional quality of livestock feed.
This acquisition aligns with OCP Group’s broader strategy to become a major player in the global animal feed market, positioning itself as a key participant in this growing sector. The final approval of the deal remains contingent upon the assessment by the Competition Council.
