Moroccan Tourism Welcomes Nearly 16 Million Visitors in Record-Breaking 2024

Morocco’s tourism industry has reached an unprecedented milestone, with 15.9 million tourist arrivals by the end of November 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Tourism. This remarkable achievement represents a 20% growth compared to the same period in 2023, adding an impressive 2.6 million more visitors to the country’s tourism portfolio.

The growth surge was primarily driven by an increase in international tourists, which rose by 23%, contributing an additional 1.5 million arrivals. Meanwhile, Moroccan Residents Abroad (MRE) played a significant role in this success, with a 17% increase adding 1.1 million more visitors.

November alone saw a dramatic uptick, with 1.3 million travelers arriving in Morocco, marking a 31% year-on-year increase.

Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, celebrated the achievement, calling it a “historic milestone in the dynamic history of Moroccan tourism.” She highlighted the success of the ministry’s tourism roadmap and its impact in positioning Morocco among the world’s top travel destinations. Sharing the news on LinkedIn, Ammor remarked, “We planned to announce the full-year results in December but couldn’t wait to share this incredible accomplishment.”

Strategic Efforts Drive Growth

The record-breaking numbers are a testament to Morocco’s targeted strategies led by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourism Office (ONMT). Collaborative efforts with international airlines have established new routes connecting Moroccan cities to global destinations, making the country more accessible to tourists.

Moreover, extensive marketing campaigns and participation in international tourism events have showcased Morocco’s rich culture, history, natural landscapes, and warm hospitality. These initiatives have elevated Morocco’s visibility as a premier travel destination.

Climbing the Global Tourism Ranks

Morocco’s efforts have paid off on the global stage, with the country climbing 10 spots in the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) global tourism revenue rankings. Morocco now ranks 31st, up from 41st last year, solidifying its growing reputation as a travel hotspot.

As the year draws to a close, Morocco’s tourism industry remains poised for even greater achievements, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global travel landscape.
