Morocco A Key Player in the Revival of Global Multilateralism

Morocco has emerged as a pivotal actor in the global revival of multilateralism, according to Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, President of the association "France Terre d’Asile." Speaking in an interview during the 13th edition of the annual international conference "The Atlantic Dialogues" in Rabat, she highlighted Morocco's prominent role across multiple levels in Africa, driven by the Kingdom's socio-economic development model.

Vallaud-Belkacem, a former French Minister of Education, emphasized Morocco's remarkable economic development and significant societal advancements, such as recent constitutional reforms and updates to the Family Code. These initiatives underscore the nation’s progressive trajectory, both domestically and internationally.

The Role of Moroccan Diaspora

Addressing the Moroccan diaspora, she praised the innovative structure of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad, which aims to strengthen ties, highlight achievements, and enhance the global influence of Moroccans.

A notable trend, she observed, is the increasing number of Moroccans abroad who are choosing to return and settle in Morocco. This phenomenon reflects the country’s growing appeal and its rising stature on the international stage. At the same time, Moroccans born in the Kingdom who pursue careers abroad hold influential roles worldwide, especially in advanced scientific fields in the United States, Canada, Europe, and other regions.

Morocco’s Role as a Southern Ambassador

On a global scale, Vallaud-Belkacem remarked on the ongoing revision of traditional global frameworks, including trade regulations, development financing, and climate change policies. Historically dominated by the Global North, these frameworks are now seeing increasing participation from Southern nations. Morocco, she noted, exemplifies this shift by positioning itself as a Southern ambassador capable of playing a role equivalent to Northern actors.

A Platform for Global Dialogue

The 2024 edition of "The Atlantic Dialogues" (December 12–14) focuses on a range of economic and geopolitical topics that mirror the transformations of an increasingly integrated and dynamic Atlantic region. Through panels, roundtables, and collaborative sessions, the conference addresses issues such as cultural diplomacy, regional security paradigms, smart infrastructure, and artificial intelligence governance, among other global challenges.

Morocco's active engagement in such initiatives and its leadership in fostering South-North collaboration further solidify its status as a key player in shaping the future of multilateralism on a global scale.
