Port Closure in Tarifa Due to Severe Winds; A Safety Measure Amid Storm

The port of Tarifa, located at the southern tip of Spain, has been temporarily closed due to severe winds caused by a "Levante" storm sweeping through the Strait of Gibraltar. This decision was made by the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras to ensure the safety of both passengers and staff. All maritime services have been canceled as a precautionary measure, affecting all travel routes connecting the port with other destinations.

The closure also impacts the ferry service between Tarifa and the city of Tangier in Morocco. As the weather conditions remain adverse, there will be no maritime connections between the two ports until the situation improves.

According to the Spanish National Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a yellow alert has been issued for strong winds in the Strait of Gibraltar. The winds in the area are blowing at speeds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7), with gusts reaching up to 52 to 74 km/h (Force 8), which are considered dangerous for maritime operations.

Safety remains the top priority as authorities continue to monitor the situation. The closure serves as a necessary response to ensure the well-being of those traveling and working in the region. Passengers are advised to stay updated on the status of the port and ferry services as the storm passes and conditions improve.
