Madrid hosts economic forum to boost Spanish investments in northern Morocco
Madrid will host an economic forum on February 19 and 20, 2025, aimed at encouraging Spanish investments in northern Morocco. The event is part of the International Business and Investment Fair “IMEX – Madrid 2025,” organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce at the Palacio de Cibeles.
According to the Spanish news outlet El Independiente, the forum will spotlight economic opportunities in the Tangier–Tetouan–Al Hoceima region, a strategic area serving as a commercial bridge between Europe and Africa. The event seeks to inspire Spanish companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to explore expansion possibilities and strengthen their competitiveness in international markets.
Several notable figures will attend the forum, including Karima Benyaich, Moroccan Ambassador to Spain; Amin El Harithi, Director of Economic Promotion at the Regional Investment Center; Amal Bousouf, Director of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tangier; and Mohamed Jawad Arslan, representative of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises in the northern region. Also participating are Abdelatif Afilal, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the region, and Bouchta El Moumni, President of Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, known for hosting prominent political figures supporting Morocco’s stance on the Sahara issue in recent years.
Officials from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Tangier emphasized that the forum aims to equip entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to explore cross-border investment opportunities.
This event comes amid a period of flourishing economic relations between Morocco and Spain, following Spain’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. Morocco has since become the second-largest destination for Spanish investments outside the European Union.
