Simplified Schengen visa renewals: New procedures introduced by BLS Rabat

Starting February 24, BLS Rabat will implement a streamlined process for renewing Schengen visas, introducing a no-appointment system for eligible applicants. This initiative aims to simplify administrative procedures and enhance accessibility for visa renewal services.

Renewing one-year Schengen visas

Holders of one-year Schengen visas issued within the last four years can now renew their visas without the need for an appointment. Applicants must visit the BLS Rabat office between Monday and Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, subject to weekly quota availability. A copy of the most recent visa is required to complete the application.

Long-term Schengen visas: New fingerprint requirements

Since January 11, 2025, new regulations mandate that applicants for long-term visas to Italy provide their fingerprints, as stipulated by Decree-Law 145/2024. Previously applicable only to short-term Schengen visas, this biometric requirement now extends to all long-term visa applications for Italy.

Renewing three-year or longer Schengen visas

For those holding Schengen visas valid for three years or more, issued within the last four years, renewals without prior appointments will be available exclusively on Fridays, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. This service is also subject to weekly quota limits and requires a copy of the most recent visa.

Renewing two-year Schengen visas

Applicants with two-year Schengen visas issued within the last four years can renew their visas without an appointment from Monday to Thursday, between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, subject to slot availability. As with other categories, a copy of the most recent visa is mandatory. For those preferring the traditional method, BLS Rabat will continue to offer online appointment bookings.

Simplified process for student visas

From February 24, students seeking university visas can submit their applications directly to BLS Rabat without an appointment, provided they meet the daily quota. Students who have already booked online appointments and have complete dossiers can also submit their applications without waiting.

These new procedures are designed to expedite and simplify the Schengen visa renewal process, addressing the needs and expectations of applicants while maintaining efficiency.
