Morocco's automotive production boosts regional growth in 2024
In 2024, Morocco's automotive production saw a significant increase of 12%, reaching nearly 500,000 vehicles. This surge played a crucial role in offsetting a decline in production in Iran, contributing to an overall 0.4% growth in vehicle production across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), the report highlights a decline in car production within the European Union, with Italy experiencing a sharp drop of 43% and Belgium falling by over 31%. France and Romania also recorded negative growth, while Spain saw a slight increase in production.
Germany continued to lead the EU's car manufacturing sector, producing nearly 4 million vehicles in 2024, followed by Spain in second place, and the Czech Republic in third, with 1.44 million cars produced. In total, EU member states produced over 11.4 million vehicles in the year.
Globally, vehicle production reached 75.5 million units in 2024, with sales surpassing 74 million units, reflecting a 2% increase from the previous year. China remained the dominant force in global car sales, representing 31% of the market, while sales in Japan and South Korea saw declines.
The report also addressed a 19% decrease in EU bus exports, despite a rise in imports. Turkey remained the EU's top bus supplier, followed by China and Morocco. Morocco now holds a 2.5% share of the European bus import market, enhancing its position in the global automotive supply chain.
