Barcelona's new agreement to build over 1,100 public housing units
A new agreement between the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat aims to invest €22 million in the construction of more than 1,100 public housing units in the city. The collaboration between both governments, led by officials from the same political party, was formalized this Wednesday with the signing of a co-financing deal for 1,151 subsidized apartments in Barcelona.
The two administrations are focused on building these homes in the short term, with construction expected to begin between 2025 and 2027. According to a statement from the city council, the new homes will be spread across 19 developments in eight districts and 16 neighborhoods.
During the signing event, Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two institutions in addressing the city's housing needs. He also welcomed the agreement, noting that it would ensure everyone who wishes to live in Barcelona will have the opportunity to do so. Collboni further highlighted how investments like this contribute to building a public housing system and overcoming current challenges.
