Motsepe explains choice of Fouzi Lekjaa as CAF first vice president
During his visit on April 30, 2025, to attend the final of the Women's Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, addressed the recent appointment of Fouzi Lekjaa as the organization’s first vice president.
Motsepe clarified that the selection of Lekjaa was a thoughtful decision rooted in merit. When he asked the executive committee members to submit proposals for five vice presidents, many names were considered. However, he insisted on choosing individuals who not only demonstrated exceptional capabilities and achievements but also showed a deep passion for the game.
He emphasized that naming Lekjaa to the top vice-presidential role was not a random decision. Motsepe stated that he firmly believes Lekjaa is a strong representative of Morocco and possesses the leadership qualities necessary to step in if unexpected situations arise—particularly in overseeing the 54 African football federations.
The appointment of Fouzi Lekjaa was officially announced on April 26, 2025, during the inaugural meeting of the CAF executive committee held in Ghana.
