Wave of Israeli strikes on Gaza kills at least 48

A recent series of Israeli airstrikes on residences in northern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 48 individuals, including 22 children, as reported by the Indonesian Hospital in Jabaliya.

The Israeli military has not commented on these attacks but had previously warned Jabaliya residents to evacuate due to the presence of Hamas infrastructure, including rocket launchers, which made the area a potential target.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that there would be “no way” to cease military operations in Gaza, reducing hopes for a ceasefire. He indicated that Israeli forces were poised for a significant escalation and would enter Gaza “with great strength to complete the mission,” which he defined as the destruction of Hamas.

These strikes occurred shortly after Hamas released an Israeli-American hostage in a U.S.-brokered agreement, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia.

The conflict began following a 2023 attack by Hamas militants that killed 1,200 people in southern Israel. Israel's subsequent military response has resulted in over 52,800 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which does not differentiate between combatants and civilians. The offensive has devastated significant portions of Gaza's urban areas and displaced 90% of the population, often multiple times.
