European Commission Partners with Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco
The European Commission has officially partnered with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to support upcoming major football events in Morocco. This includes both the men's Africa Cup of Nations, set for December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, and the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled from July 5 to 26, 2025.
The partnership agreement was signed on May 18, 2025, in Cairo by CAF President Patrice Motsepe and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Joseph Sikela.
Motsepe emphasized that this collaboration reflects the European Commission’s confidence in CAF’s development, governance, and transparency. He noted that the agreement also extends to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and the African Schools Football Championship.
He highlighted that the partnership underscores the improvements CAF has made and its strong anti-corruption stance.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the EU-Africa relationship as unique, reaffirming that the European Union is both Africa’s largest investor and main trading partner.
