Sudan cuts diplomatic ties with UAE, labels it an 'enemy state'
Sudan's army-affiliated defense council has officially severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, branding the Gulf nation an "enemy state." This dramatic move reflects escalating tensions between the two countries, with accusations of interference and aggression taking center stage.
Yassin Ibrahim, a senior Sudanese defense official, announced the decision, which includes the withdrawal of Sudan's ambassador from the UAE. He condemned the Gulf state for purportedly violating Sudan’s sovereignty through its local proxy, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Sudanese Security and Defense Council issued a statement emphasizing that the world has witnessed ongoing assaults on Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over the past two years. They claim these aggressions are orchestrated by the UAE, which has allegedly supported the RSF in its actions against Sudan's national interests.
In a bold declaration, the council referred to the UAE as an "aggressor state," asserting that Sudan reserves the right to respond to these actions through any means necessary to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens. The council reassured the public of Sudan's capabilities in deterring aggression and maintaining national security.
Tensions have been mounting between the two nations for months. In April, Sudan took its grievances to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing the UAE of complicity in genocide through its backing of the RSF. However, the ICJ dismissed the case on Monday, citing a lack of jurisdiction, a ruling that the UAE welcomed as a validation of its position.
As the situation unfolds, the implications of this diplomatic rupture could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and international relations.
