CNDP addresses cyberattack on CNSS and data protection risks

The National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP) has issued a warning to the public regarding the risks associated with the use of personal data that may have been leaked or published on unauthorized channels. This comes in response to a series of cybersecurity attacks that have particularly affected the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).

In a statement, the CNDP emphasized that the lawful processing of personal data relies on the informed consent of the individual or a legal framework authorized by Law No. 09-08. It added that any information obtained outside of this framework is illegal, and its use constitutes an offense.

Furthermore, the CNDP highlighted its investigative and inquiry powers under Article 30 of Law No. 09-08. This allows the commission to ensure that data processors comply with the law and that the processed personal data is protected in accordance with Article 24 of the same law.

In line with its mission, the CNDP is prepared to receive and address complaints from individuals who believe they have fallen victim to leaks or illegal publication of personal data. The commission will conduct an investigation to verify the compliance of data processing with Law No. 09-08 and its implementing regulations. Preliminary checks by certain stakeholders revealed that some documents leaked in this cyberattack were found to be false, inaccurate, or misleading.
