Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv leaves casualties and destruction

A deadly missile and drone assault by Russia has struck Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, leaving at least nine people dead and over 60 injured, including children, according to local authorities. Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported that drone debris caused multiple fires, and there are concerns that some people may be trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed residential building. Rescue teams, including sniffer dogs, are searching for survivors.

Additionally, blasts were reported in Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine, where at least two people were injured. Ukrainian officials stated that the worst damage occurred in Kyiv’s western Svyatoshynskyi district. The attack followed comments from US President Donald Trump, who accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of sabotaging peace efforts after Zelensky ruled out recognizing Russian control over Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The Russian military has not issued a statement on the attacks. However, Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have destroyed or intercepted 87 Ukrainian drones in various regions. Ukraine's air force warned of continued threats of air strikes across the country.
