Sanchez confirms 2027 re-election bid despite corruption probes

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has confirmed his intention to seek re-election in 2027 at the conclusion of his current term, despite his administration being entangled in multiple corruption investigations.

Leading a minority left-wing coalition, Sanchez has faced increasing pressure from the opposition due to a string of political scandals. Nevertheless, on June 12, he firmly ruled out the possibility of calling early elections, asserting his commitment to serving the full term.

Tensions escalated after law enforcement authorities searched the party's headquarters on Friday, targeting the emails of Santos Cerdan, a close associate of Sanchez. Cerdan had stepped down a week earlier, following the release of a police report detailing alleged financial misconduct.

This latest development adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding the government, intensifying calls from political rivals for snap elections. However, Sanchez remains determined to complete his mandate and seek a new term in office.
