Modi to visit Morocco in July as part of strategic global tour

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing for a diplomatic tour starting in early July, which will include visits to five countries across Africa, Latin America, and West Asia. The tour is set to begin in Morocco, a country seen as an emerging economic and security partner for India.

Modi is expected to arrive in Rabat to hold talks with King Mohammed VI. Morocco has gained importance for its growing economy and strong ties with both West Africa and Southern Europe. The country is increasingly viewed as a strategic anchor in North Africa.

Although this visit has been in the planning stages for several years, scheduling issues had delayed it until now.

After Morocco, Modi is expected to travel to Argentina, which plays a vital role in areas such as strategic minerals, food security, and defense cooperation. Other countries on the itinerary include Trinidad and Tobago and Jordan. A key objective of the tour is to build a broader coalition to combat terrorism, particularly in light of the recent attack in Pahalgam.

In Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, the visit may open new avenues of collaboration between India and Argentina, particularly in agriculture, defense, and logistics connectivity.

The BRICS summit, scheduled for July 6–7 in Brazil, will also offer Modi the opportunity to meet various global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and the heads of Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, the UAE, Egypt, and Ethiopia. Additional meetings with leaders from BRICS partner countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Nigeria are also possible during this leg of the tour.
