Iran suspends cooperation with UN nuclear watchdog

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian implemented a newly passed law on Wednesday that suspends the country’s collaboration with the United Nations nuclear monitoring agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This move comes after Iran accused the agency of aligning with Western nations and supporting Israel’s air strikes, which began shortly after the IAEA declared Iran in breach of its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty commitments.

The legislation requires that any future inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the IAEA must receive prior authorization from Tehran’s Supreme National Security Council.

The IAEA responded that it is aware of the situation and is awaiting official confirmation from Iran.

Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the U.S. bombing of the Fordow nuclear site caused significant and serious damage to the facility.
