Casablanca shines with art and culture at Nuit des Musées 2025
Casablanca hosted a vibrant celebration of art and culture during Nuit des Musées 2025, a national event aimed at democratizing access to art and showcasing Morocco’s dynamic contemporary scene. Held at the Myriem Himmich Gallery under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, the event brought together 25 renowned and emerging artists from Morocco and abroad to explore the theme of “Transitions.”
A showcase of Moroccan creativity
The exhibition offered a rich tapestry of artistic expression, from painting and sculpture to mixed media. “This is about giving visibility to creators we don’t often get to meet,” said Hicham Abkari, Director of Arts at the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication. He described the collection as a rare panoramic view of Morocco’s thriving creative landscape.
Each piece in “Transitions” examined themes of impermanence, identity, and transformation. For artist Karim Saidi, the concept was deeply personal. His exhibited collage, a project spanning over a decade, reflected years spent piecing together solitude and creativity between film sets. “This piece is just one of over thirty that Myriem Himmich plans to present soon,” Saidi explained.
Art meets science and culture
Emerging artist Sahar Saïagh brought a cosmic perspective to the event with her acrylic paintings inspired by astrophysics. “Besides art, my other passion is science,” she shared. Her works, born from extensive research into planetary compositions and astronomical imagery, blended scientific precision with imaginative exploration.
Adding a touch of whimsy, illustrator Noam Chaoudri, known as nono1dessine, showcased characters inspired by Moroccan culture. “My characters, a man with a tarbouch and a woman with a hat, travel Morocco together,” he said, delighted to exhibit alongside fellow Moroccan talents.
A multisensory experience
The evening extended beyond visual art. As the sun set over Casablanca, music by DJ ReqTeq infused the gallery with energy, while chef Baya curated a culinary experience that mirrored the evening’s artistic themes. Guests savored gourmet dishes that highlighted creativity in gastronomy.
The rooftop of the gallery became an integral part of the event, offering panoramic views of Casablanca’s bustling streets as the city lights illuminated the horizon. Guests mingled in an atmosphere alive with fashion, energy, and a shared appreciation for art.
A celebration of connection
Actress Imane Wassila summed up the spirit of the night: “I came to see the work of Karim Saidi and Mohsen Bassir, but I left discovering so much more… We have art in Morocco.” Throughout the evening, art served as a universal language, fostering connections between government officials, filmmakers, scientists, and the public.
Nuit des Musées 2025 was more than an exhibition; it was a celebration of Morocco’s rich artistic heritage and its limitless potential for creative expression.
