12 dead in explosion at pharmaceutical factory in India

At least twelve people lost their lives and several others were injured on Monday due to an explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Telangana state, located in southern India, according to local authorities.

The blast occurred inside a reactor at the Sigachi Group's facility, situated within an industrial zone in the Sangareddy district. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.

Images from the scene showed the factory in ruins, with thick black smoke rising from the site.

Damodara Raja Narasimha, the state Health Minister, told the press that twelve people have died and 34 others are receiving treatment, expressing hope that no more fatalities will occur.

The Labor Minister, Vivek Venkatswamy, added that eight people died in the morning and four more bodies were found later.

A police official reported that around 150 people were present at the factory at the time of the explosion, including approximately 90 in the affected area.
