Ivorian environment minister praises Moroccan leadership for Africa’s ocean and sustainability efforts
The Ivorian Minister of Environment, Jacques Assahoré Konan, expressed strong appreciation for Morocco’s wide-ranging initiatives aimed at ocean conservation and sustainable development across Africa. Speaking at the “Africa for the Ocean” Summit held in Nice, he highlighted the visionary leadership of the Moroccan monarchy in driving these efforts.
He emphasized that, amid the urgent global climate crisis, Africa’s collective action under Morocco’s guidance marks a historic milestone. For the first time, the continent has come together to assert its maritime voice and address critical ocean-related challenges.
The minister underlined Morocco’s pioneering role in fostering an inclusive and resilient blue economy. He noted the importance of this initiative as a response to the pressing need for coordinated solidarity and joint action beyond national borders to tackle environmental threats.
Stressing that Africa is no longer a continent seeking aid but rather one equipped with the talent and vision to implement sustainable solutions, he praised Morocco’s initiative as a powerful symbol of this new paradigm.
Furthermore, he called for strengthened South-South cooperation to address climate and environmental challenges, urging the creation of strategic partnerships that enable Africa to harness its marine resources sustainably and fairly.
The summit, co-chaired by representatives from Morocco and France, gathered numerous African heads of state, the United Nations Secretary-General, and senior officials from international organizations and financial institutions.
