Morocco reports high-grade copper findings at BMR property near Ouarzazate
Morocco Strategic Minerals Corporation has announced significant discoveries from its recent sampling program at the BMR copper-gold property located southeast of Ouarzazate. The program, completed in May, focused on a prominent mineralized structure covering approximately 9 km².
The BMR property features a subvertical mineralized structure extending about 1.2 km in its southern portion, characterized by brecciated quartz-carbonate veining with visible copper oxide minerals, including chalcocite and malachite. Initial surface sampling revealed copper values up to 11.73% and gold concentrations of 5.53 grams per tonne (g/t), prompting further exploration.
The May sampling program collected 67 rock samples analyzed at Afrilab Laboratory in Marrakech. The results confirmed the property’s high-grade potential, with 37 samples showing copper concentrations exceeding 2.00% Cu, including a peak value of 9.33% Cu. Additionally, 19 samples exhibited oxide copper grades above 2.00% CuOX, with a maximum of 6.51% CuOX. Seven samples contained gold grades over 0.30 g/t Au, with one sample reporting a notable silver grade of 52 g/t Ag.
Pierre-Olivier Goulet, VP of Corporate Development for Morocco Strategic Minerals Corp, stated, “These results confirm the high-grade copper potential of the southern structure and reveal notable gold and silver anomalies. The mineralization style suggests the potential for a larger polymetallic system, warranting further exploration.”
The BMR site is accessible via the national road N9, connecting Ouarzazate and Zagora. The area comprises two main zones of mineralization, with the southern zone showcasing a subvertical structure that exhibits tectonic brecciation. The northern part features a historical copper quarry, where approximately 4,000 tonnes of material were extracted, leaving much of the copper mineralization on site.
Morocco Strategic Minerals is planning a follow-up program that includes detailed mapping, trenching, and geophysical surveys to evaluate the extent of mineralization and identify new targets. The company, based in Canada, specializes in acquiring, exploring, and developing natural resource properties in both Canada and Morocco. Sample analysis adhered to rigorous quality control protocols, ensuring the reliability of the findings.
