Moroccan AI expert honored by New York University for educational leadership
Professor Anasse Bari, a prominent Moroccan scholar in the field of artificial intelligence, has been recognized with the 2025 Martin Luther King Faculty Award by New York University (NYU). This prestigious award honors faculty members who exhibit outstanding leadership and uphold the principles of justice and equity, values closely associated with the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
As the head of the Predictive Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Lab at NYU, Bari has guided numerous research projects focused on developing innovative AI tools. These tools aim to address significant global challenges such as healthcare, climate change, misinformation, and pandemic preparedness.
In his acceptance speech, Bari highlighted the vital role of serving communities and remaining steadfast in promoting justice and equity. He also reflected on how his work and values align with the commitment to social good, emphasizing the importance of these principles in his professional and personal life.
Bari, who earned his PhD in Computer Science from George Washington University, expressed deep pride in receiving the award, noting that it also symbolizes the values instilled in him throughout his upbringing in Morocco.
