UAE commits billions to develop France's largest AI data center

The United Arab Emirates has pledged to invest billions of euros in France to construct an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) data center, according to an official statement released by the French presidency.

This facility will serve as the core of a new AI "campus," featuring a capacity of up to one gigawatt. The overall investment in the project is projected to range between 30 and 50 billion euros. The initiative forms part of a broader AI agreement signed in Paris between French President Emmanuel Macron and his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

AI data centers play a crucial role in storing vast amounts of data and supplying the extensive energy needed for cutting-edge AI technologies. According to official sources, this new AI campus will be the largest of its kind in Europe, marking a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to compete in the global AI landscape.

The announcement coincided with an international gathering of experts in Paris, where discussions focused on both the challenges and opportunities posed by AI. The event, which precedes a summit of world leaders on the rapidly evolving technology, has drawn thousands of participants. One of its key objectives is to establish common ground on AI governance while positioning France and Europe as serious players in the global AI race.
