Morocco set to host global civil aviation summit in 2026
Morocco has been selected to host the 5th Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) for civil aviation in Marrakech in April 2026, as announced at the closing ceremony of the 4th edition in Abu Dhabi. The event, organized by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), brings together representatives from all 193 ICAO member states.
Transport and Logistics Minister Abdelssamad Kayouh, who led the Moroccan delegation at the symposium, emphasized that this selection reflects Morocco's deep commitment to advancing aviation development and ensuring safe, sustainable, and efficient air transport in alignment with ICAO's strategic objectives.
The selection serves as a source of pride for Morocco and demonstrates ICAO's confidence in the kingdom. According to Kayouh, hosting this global event motivates the ministry and sector to intensify efforts toward achieving set objectives under King Mohammed VI's guidance, particularly in aerospace manufacturing, expanding the Moroccan air fleet, and enhancing airport traffic.
During the symposium, Kayouh met with ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano to discuss strengthening cooperation between Morocco and ICAO, focusing on aviation safety, security, and sustainability. They also addressed training and development opportunities for Moroccan civil aviation personnel and potential ICAO support in these areas.
Kayouh highlighted Morocco's success in enhancing civil aviation safety and security through its commitment to ICAO's strategic objectives, which provide a global framework for cooperation and expertise exchange. He noted that Morocco actively participates in various ICAO initiatives and implements international standards, thereby building trust among travelers and key industry stakeholders, including airlines, manufacturers, and suppliers.
The symposium, which featured the launch of the first UAE "Sustainable Aviation Global Market" initiative, focused on sustainability and AI integration in civil aviation.
