COP29 in Baku: A Global Push for Climate Action
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on Monday in Baku, bringing together delegations from around the world, civil society representatives, and leaders from key sectors.
This global summit, running until November 22, is a crucial opportunity to assess the progress made in combating climate change and to negotiate effective strategies for tackling this pressing issue. Leaders will focus on areas essential for global climate resilience, with particular attention on climate finance, which is viewed as critical for all countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect lives, and safeguard livelihoods, especially within vulnerable communities.
A central theme at COP29 is the mobilization of financial resources to ensure that every nation, regardless of its economic standing, can meet its climate targets and implement adaptive measures against the worsening impacts of climate change. Discussions will focus on setting realistic goals for financial contributions and identifying mechanisms to secure long-term commitments from the international community.
