Court Reportedly Denies Dounia Batma's Appeal in 'Hamza Mon BB' Case

In a significant development, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation in Rabat has reportedly dismissed Moroccan songstress Dounia Batma's appeal against her conviction in the infamous "Hamza mon bb" blackmail case. The court's decision reaffirms Batma's direct involvement in the scandal, marking a crucial juncture in the legal proceedings.

According to a reliable judicial source, Batma's appeal against the initial prison sentence she received for her role in the "Hamza mon BB" case was rejected. In January 2021, the Marrakech Court of Appeal had handed down a one-year prison term to the songstress for her complicity in the matter.

This recent ruling by the court follows a previous sentence in July 2020, where Batma was initially sentenced to eight months behind bars. However, she challenged the decision by lodging an appeal. The court's subsequent verdict in 2021 saw an additional four months added to her original sentence. Despite this outcome, Batma managed to evade imprisonment and continued her professional endeavors, including performing at weddings, private gatherings, and clubs, as well as releasing new albums.

It is worth noting that Batma's sister, Ibtissam Batma, also faced legal repercussions in connection with the "Hamza mon bb" case. In July 2020, she received a one-year prison sentence, a ruling that was upheld by the court. Alongside other suspects, namely Sophia Chakri and Aicha Ayach, Ibtissam Batma served her term.

The "Hamza mon bb" scandal first gained international attention in 2018. Both Dounia and Ibtissam Batma have confronted various charges over the years, including allegations of unlawfully accessing personal data to disseminate private conversations and images through online platforms without the consent of the individuals involved. These charges encompass the deliberate sharing of sensitive information with the intent to undermine privacy and tarnish reputations.
