Marrakech Ignites Climate Innovation Hub for MENA Region
A groundbreaking climate innovation hub has been launched in Marrakech, Morocco, with the aim of empowering entrepreneurs across the MENA region to develop solutions addressing the global climate crisis.
The Marrakech Coalition for Climate Entrepreneurship (CCE) Hub, unveiled on December 12th, is supported by both public and private partners, including the U.S. Department of State and General Electric. It is part of a broader network of hubs emerging in developing countries.
Situated within the vibrant Emerging Business Factory, the CCE Hub serves as a makerspace where climate-focused startups can access cutting-edge hardware, software, mentors, and a collaborative community to refine their ventures.
During the inaugural one-week incubator event, numerous early-stage companies underwent specialized training, participated in pitching sessions, and received coaching. The most promising startups will now continue their engagement with the Hub over two years to accelerate the rollout of their low-carbon products and services.
Following the opening of the first CCE Hub in Accra, Ghana, in February, the Marrakech launchpad is part of a growing network expanding across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This collaborative network aims to facilitate the sharing of ideas and resources, empowering local entrepreneurs in developing sustainable solutions.
Supported by partners such as Islamic Relief USA and the Elsa & Peter Soderberg Charitable Foundation, the CCE Hub initiative emerged from the 2021 Glasgow climate conference. It signifies the pivotal role entrepreneurship can play in transforming global economies to be more resilient and equitable in the face of climate change.
At the intersection of innovation, economic empowerment, and environmental stewardship, Marrakech’s CCE Hub stands as a testament to the power of global cooperation in addressing the defining crisis of our time.
