Moroccan international footballer Achraf Hakimi is contesting his referral to trial before the Versailles Court of Appeal in Versailles, as legal proceedings in an alleged sexual assault case continue.
The appeal hearing comes as the player challenges a decision ordering him to stand trial following accusations made by a French woman in 2023. The case, which has attracted significant media attention, remains under judicial investigation in France.
The allegations date back to February 2023, when the complainant reportedly contacted police in the Val-de-Marne region, accusing Hakimi of sexual assault at his residence. A judicial investigation was opened, leading to formal proceedings and placing the player under judicial supervision pending further decisions.
According to case details reported during the investigation, the woman stated that she met Hakimi through social media and later visited his home by taxi. She alleges that non-consensual acts took place, after which she managed to leave the residence and seek help from a friend. Hakimi has consistently denied all accusations.
His legal team argues that the case is primarily based on the complainant’s testimony and claims that there are inconsistencies and a lack of decisive medical or technical evidence supporting the allegations. They maintain that these factors justify overturning the referral to trial.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Hakimi continues to play professionally with Paris Saint-Germain and is expected to participate in major upcoming fixtures, including the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal FC in Budapest on May 30.
He is also anticipated to join the Morocco national football team for upcoming international commitments, including a World Cup opening match scheduled for June 13 against Brazil.
