Algerian boxer Imane Khelif denies retirement rumors
Algerian Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif firmly denied on Wednesday that she was ending her career, contradicting claims made by her former manager in the French press.
In a statement shared on her official Facebook page, Khelif stressed that reports of her retirement were “false” and accused her ex-manager, Nasser Yefsah, of spreading misleading information. “This person no longer represents me in any way,” she wrote, adding that his remarks had “betrayed my trust and my country.”
Khelif made it clear that she remains committed to her sporting career. “I never announced my retirement from boxing. I continue to train regularly, maintaining my physical condition between Algeria and Qatar as I prepare for upcoming competitions,” she explained.
The boxer also warned that such rumors were intended to disrupt her focus and harm her professional journey.
The controversy emerged after Yefsah told the French daily Nice Matin that Khelif had decided to “hang up her gloves,” without clarifying whether the decision was temporary or definitive.
