Qatar hosted an emergency summit on Monday with Arab and Muslim leaders to express their condemnation of an Israeli strike that targeted Hamas officials in Doha and to show solidarity with the Gulf state, Qatari authorities said Saturday.

The summit will review a draft resolution on the Israeli attack against Qatar, prepared during a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries on Sunday, according to the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari.

“This reflects broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with Qatar in the face of Israel’s cowardly aggression, as well as the categorical rejection by these countries of state terrorism carried out by Israel,” Al-Ansari said.

Iran confirmed the participation of President Massoud Pezeshkian, Iraq that of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and Turkey announced that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would visit Doha on Monday.

The Israeli strike on Tuesday killed five Hamas members and one Qatari security official. The attack prompted widespread international condemnation, including from Gulf monarchies allied with the United States, Israel’s main global supporter.

Qatar hosts the largest US base in the region and acts as a mediator in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, alongside the US and Egypt. Experts describe the strike as an unprecedented violation of sovereignty and a direct challenge to diplomacy.

“The goal is to draw clear red lines and end the perception that Israel can act with impunity,” said Andreas Krieg of King’s College London, adding that he expects a firmer stance on Palestine and a tougher approach toward Israeli actions.

The United Arab Emirates, one of the two Gulf countries that normalized relations with Israel in 2020, summoned Israel’s deputy ambassador in Abu Dhabi on Friday to formally protest.
