At least nine people were killed and 29 others injured early Sunday in Argentina’s Misiones Province, after a double-decker bus carrying around fifty passengers fell several meters from a bridge following a collision, according to local authorities.

The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. near the city of Oberá, about 1,000 kilometers northeast of Buenos Aires, when the bus collided head-on with an oncoming car, provincial police reported.

The impact caused the bus to swerve violently, break through the bridge’s guardrail, and plunge into a riverbed below, leaving the vehicle partially submerged.
As rescue operations continued through the morning, the death toll gradually rose. By midday, Marcelo Pérez, Misiones’ provincial minister of the interior, confirmed a provisional toll of nine fatalities.

More than one hundred firefighters and emergency workers were deployed at dawn to rescue trapped passengers, spending several hours extracting victims from the wreckage.

Authorities are now investigating the exact circumstances of the collision, while survivors were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment. The tragic crash has reignited concerns over road safety and driver fatigue on Argentina’s long-distance routes.
