Approximately 15,000 Yemeni fighters supported by Saudi Arabia have been deployed in strategic areas near the border with the kingdom, a Yemeni military official told AFP on Saturday. The deployment follows recent territorial gains by a separatist movement in southern Yemen.

According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the forces are positioned close to areas that were taken over in recent weeks by separatist groups backed by the United Arab Emirates. However, the official emphasized that no military orders have been issued to advance beyond their current positions.

The buildup reflects growing tensions on the ground amid shifting alliances and competing interests within Yemen’s prolonged conflict. While Saudi-backed forces appear to be reinforcing border areas, the situation remains fluid, with no immediate indication of an escalation into direct confrontation.

The developments come as Yemen continues to face political fragmentation, with rival factions seeking to consolidate control over key regions. Observers say the presence of large numbers of fighters near the border highlights ongoing security concerns and the fragile balance between regional actors involved in the conflict.
